I've had the same problem ever since moving from Firefox 3.0 to 3.5 and had always assumed it was a Firefox bug. On my quad-core machine the Firefox process that refuses to die uses 25% CPU on exit. But now I've found the problem goes away when I go back to using Firefox 3.0. (Luckily, Firefox allows you to install multiple versions on the same machine by using different installation folders.) When I need v3.5 I'll have to disable imacros.
