Feedback - Take the iMacros Add-on(s) Survey!

UPDATE (March 2018): As the Thread has now "reached" Page_2, I will rather be maintaining the List of EnhReq's in Post_1 on Page_2 than in this current Post...

>>>

Hum..., I received a very interesting and promising I hope! E-mail yesterday about a Survey on the 3 iMacros Add-ons where I could provide my Feedback and mention some EnhReq's. These are the Answers I gave:
EDIT: I'm adding New EnhReq's to my "original" List in this same Post to keep the List a bit "central"...

>>>

And now about the future....
4. If you have to explain iMacros to a friend, what would you say is the best part of iMacros?
- Web-Automation, everything you do with Click-Click-Click, Select Copy&Paste, Save, Navigation can be automated with iMacros.

- (Choose iMacros for FF and it's Free.)

- Very easy to use.

>

5. If you have to explain iMacros to a friend, what would you say is the worst part of iMacros?
- Avoid iMacros for CR, it's the little "Brother" of FF and IE and many Commands are not implemented, and it is pretty Buggy.

- No Version for Opera.

- Pale Moon not supported anymore from v8.8.3+ for FF which is a pity as PM is 30% more performant than pure FF, without FF Memory Leaks.

- Wonderful Product, but EnhReq's practically never get implemented.
>
[Update 2018-02]
Hum, funnily/sadly enough, looks like I was quite right then, 2 years ago, ah-ah...!, and I was then already referring to 3 years
"Presence" on the Forum as an "Advanced" User... (Hum, and I was already Mod actually I think..., since Octb 2015...?):
=> From the 18 EnhReq's I currently have listed (Feb 2018) only one got implemented (which actually originated from @Tom from TechSup, Item '-04-' about the '!FOLDER_xxx' Vars), so I guess this Thread is a bit USELESS, oops...! :shock:

- TechSupport should/could come a little bit more often to answer a few Threads on the Forum.

- AlertFox is not Free (anymore...?).

>

UPDATE (March 2018): I don't maintain the List of EnhReq's in this current Post anymore by rather in Post_1 on Page_2 of the same Thread...

6. Last but not least, are there any feature(s) would you like us to add in 2016? :-)
Yes of course, but I've been asking for so long already...! :wink:
I mainly use iMacros for FF:

-01- Re-add Support for Pale Moon. (Doesn't work anymore since v8.8.3, have to stick to v8.8.2.)
EDIT: Hum v8.8.2 for PM26 and v8.8.7 for PM27.

-02- Correct the few Blocking Bugs for the EVENT Mode. (+ Documentation on Wiki is very poor. EDIT: Wiki greatly improved...!)
=> http://forum.imacros.net/viewtopic.php? ... ack#p54018
EDIT [2017-07-27]: I finally have a Workaround for Item_01 ('MOUSEMOVE' for non existing Element), hum since about 1 year actually, but I'm not sure if I've posted it completely yet... Some related Thread:
=> Hum..., Link to come...!

-03- Add Access to '!LOOP_MAX' (SET + GET) Built-in Var.
=> http://forum.imacros.net/viewtopic.php? ... MAX#p55549

-04- Add '!FOLDER_DOWNLOADS' + 'FOLDER_MACROS' Built-in Vars like we have for '!FOLDER_DATASOURCE(S)' (the missing 'S' is a bit confusing btw...).
=> http://forum.imacros.net/viewtopic.php? ... =15#p70424 (Idea is from Tom...!)
[STATUS]: Implemented in iMB v11.5 (Octb 2016). :D

-05- Improve/extend 'PROMPT' with extra Parameter:
=> http://forum.imacros.net/viewtopic.php? ... mpt#p63953

-06- Implement DS Mode for FF.

-07- Implement (New in iMacros for CR v8.4.4) 'TAG SELECTOR' Mode for FF as well.

-08- Add an 'EXTRACT' Recording Mode (based on 'TAG' Mode).
=> http://forum.imacros.net/viewtopic.php? ... 807#p70393
=> http://forum.imacros.net/viewtopic.php? ... 818#p74803

-09- Add 'iimDisplay()' Command to pure '.iim'.
=> http://forum.imacros.net/viewtopic.php? ... 840#p69714
Logged as feature request IMAC-1876 by @Tom from TechSup. (2017-01)

-10- Implement some "simple" Conditional Behaviour (IF/ELSE/FOR/WHILE) to pure '.iim'.
I know it's "by design" but maybe 50% of Threads on the Forum are about 'if/else', and many Users switch to Alternative Solutions where this Feature is available...

-11- Implement GOTO within '.iim'.
A bit like the "old" 'Basic' 'GOTO' Command, to jump to a 'SECTION' within the same '.iim' Script.

-12- Add Multiline/Section Comment in '.iim'.

-13- Allow (Limited) Free Access to AlertFox.
Was Free when introduced (and there are still several Articles about the "Free AlertFox" in the Wiki), but it quickly became Commercial only...

-14- Implement a "Super" Built-in Var that could contain Commands like 'OPEN' / 'CLOSE' / 'REFRESH' / 'CLEAR' / etc and other (Built-in) Vars like for example in '{{!COL{{!LOOP}}}}'.

-15- Automatically reset 'FILTER' to "OFF" at the End of a Macro. [BUG]
That Command is btw broken (in v8.9.7) since FF52...! :oops:

-16- Add '{{!CLIPBOARD}}' Support for iMacros for CR.

-17- Automatically backup '#Current.iim' when clicking 'Record' to (temporarily) keep the previous Content of the '#Current.iim' Macro.

-18- 'Remove' Macro: Send deleted Macro(s)/Folder(s) to the OS Recycle Bin first instead of deleting them permanently directly...!
The 'Remove' Option is very close to the 'Rename' Option in the Right Click Menu, "Rename" and "Remove" look and sound very similar, => call 'Remove' "Delete" instead, and add a Separator between 'Rename' and 'Remove'/'Delete'.
Or make that 'Remove' first sends the Macros/Folders to some special 'Trash' Folder, and Macros/Folders can then only be "really" deleted from that 'Trash' Folder...
(Several Threads on the Forum about Users clicking by mistake on 'Remove' while they wanted to rename their Macro/Folder and losing permanently their Macro(s)...)

Hum, nearly 1 month later, time to bump this Thread again, I would think, I'm a bit surprised and maybe disappointed that nobody jumped into it to add some more Feedback/EnhReq's, even if it got 42 Views in Total...

I won't be able to make anything change and improve if nobody is supporting me a bit...!! TechSupport and Dev only go by the Numbers, the more Users want stg / are impacted, the better we make a Chance to see stg implemented.

I include some kind of Template of the Survey, if other Users were kind enough to want to fill it and/or post their Answers if they received the Survey by Mail like I did...!

Code: Select all

And now about the future....
[b]4. If you have to explain iMacros to a friend, what would you say is the best part of iMacros?[/b]

Reason I was coming to bump this Thread: We have in this Thread a User asking for some more reporting Capabilities for iMacros, and who would probably profit from 'iimDisplay()' in '.iim' Scripts:
- How can I share test results?

Tja...!, always looking for good Reasons to bump this Thread, oops...! :oops:
Got one, youpidoo...!:

Some User in the following Thread who has to stick to IE because 'PRINT' and 'ONPRINT' are only implemented in iMacros for IE and iMB and would benefit if those useful Commands could be implemented in iMacros for FF (+ CR)...:
- iMacros doesn't record on IE

Possible Workaround (on FF) mentioned by the User is to use some (FF Add-on...?) called "AttendPrint"...

(The whole Thread I refer to is interesting btw for TechSup/Dev as it deals with some some External (so-called "Security") Add-on on IE which is able to prevent Recording on a specific Site (+ Replay when Macro is accessing a DataSource), FF not impacted, iMB probably same as IE...).

6. I'd like the ability to have a command in imacros to write messages into the imacros tray within the browser (the same functionality that is provided from javascript when calling iimDisplay() ).

Yep, very good...!!

Related Thread from @les_stockton where I mentioned about 8-10 Alternatives as possible Workarounds to palliate the lack of 'iimDisplay()' in pure '.iim':
- Re: display?

But much easier would be if we could use any of the following Syntaxes in '.iim' Macros:

Code: Select all

SET Msg_to_display "Message to display...!"
ADD Msg_to_display <BR>Next<SP>Line...!

URL GOTO=javascript:iimDisplay(\"Test\")
URL GOTO=javascript:iimDisplay('Test')
URL GOTO=javascript:iimDisplay('{{Msg_to_display}}')

iimDisplay("Test")
iimDisplay({{Msg_to_display}})

SET !iimDISPLAY "Test"
SET !iimDISPLAY {{Msg_to_display}}

A few other EnhReq's, coming from this Thread about removing the X/Y CLICK Mode, ah-ah...!!:

[EnhReq]:
Another "Great Idea" of mine, ah-ah...!!, if it (concerning the X/Y CLICK Mode being removed/deprecated from iMacros for FF v9.0.3) is really going to disappear from the Record Options, would be to replace it by an extra Option for the 'TAG' Mode to automatically record 'EXTRACT=TXT' (with a Toggle ON/OFF for Links & Buttons) + extra Attention/easy Mechanism for DDLB's and Tables/Rows/Columns...
That would position iMacros as an easy to use and powerful Data Extraction Tool, ah-ah...!! :idea:

Adding the EXTRACT Functionality to the EVENT Mode would be very handy as well... :idea:

Well-well-well, iMB v11.5 got released last week and a few EnhReq's have been implemented:
Version 11.5, Released October 13, 2016

Download page: http://imacros.net/download

- New: Selenium Integration. iMacros Editor can now export iMacros macros to Java Selenium WebDriver code. Use any iMacros (for Chrome, for Firefox, for Internet Explorer, or iMacros Browser) to record elements on a webpage and export the commands to Java Selenium code directly from the iMacros Editor.
- Added: ability to change the iMacros browser emulation on the UI in iMacros Browser. Show emulation mode on status bar and troubleshooting form. Added methods to do the same in the iMacros Component, GetBrowserEmulationMode() and SetBrowserEmulationMode(), as well their use is shown in the C# sample code.
- Added: variable !HTTP_ERRORCODE to retrieve last navigation error >= 400 (HTTP errors)
'>
- Added: command line parameter -title to change window title of iMacros Browser and iMacros for IE (imacros.sidebar.exe). Use Keyword #PID# to set the title (from command line or iimOpen) as "iMacros PID:<pid>", where <pid> is the current process Id. Use variable !WINDOW_TITLE to set title from macro (no read access!). Use iimSetWindowTitle to change window title at any time between playbacks from scr. interface.
'>
- Added: remaining !FOLDER_XXX variables. !FOLDER_DATASOURCE (read/write), !FOLDER_DOWNLOAD (read/write), !FOLDER_MACROS (read-only), !FOLDER_LOG (read/write). The variable is overwritten only during the macro runtime.
'>
- Added: scripting interface support for Firefox 64-bit and Chrome 64-bit
- Improved: demo macros and example scripts, including a Powershell example script.
- Fixed: Download not being handled when iMacros browser doesn't have focus.
- Fixed: Some elements of the Kendo UI (web library) not working with the iMacros browser. Needs registry setting SetPointerEventNull to turn feature on.
- Fixed: EVENT command does not scroll to the found object. Set element coordinates after localizing the element via EVENT, to allow using !TAGX and !TAGY with EVENT as well.
- Fixed: Respect !ERRORIGNORE when throwing NoDialogHandler=1450. Don't stop macro, but write message in log file.
Yep, WindowTitle ('!WINDOW_TITLE') was a from-a-long-time-ago EnhReq, useful for Users running several Macros at the same time in different Profiles...!

>

Tom's EnhReq about all Folders got implemented, very good...!
(Hum, even if they didn't pay attention to my "Remarks" about the precise Terms, so it's now a bit of a mess between singular/plural and they don't match exactly the Names of the Folders, but OK, the Vars exist now...):
-04- Add '!FOLDER_DOWNLOADS' + 'FOLDER_MACROS' Built-in Vars like we have for '!FOLDER_DATASOURCE(S)' (the missing 'S' is a bit confusing btw...).
=> viewtopic.php?f=11&t=26523&start=15#p70424 (Idea is from Tom...!)

Also would like to add this request...

to skip a line, be able to place a ' in front of a line to comment it out. For example below a conditional to only open tab if length is 1 or less...
SET !VAR1 EVAL("var s='{{!EXTRACT}}'; if(s.length > 1){var x=\" ' \";}else{var x=\"\";};")
{{!VAR1}} TAB OPEN

Thanks for your "Support" and bumping the Thread...! :D

Related Thread:
- Conditional execution of a line
(=> Related more specifically to my EnhReq Nb_14 about a "Super" Built-in Var for a "Conditional" 'TAB OPEN' / 'TAB CLOSE'...)

The "Conditional Comment" could also be "covered" by "my" "Super" Built-in Var...! :D

I definitely agree that the following enhancement would be beneficial:

"-08- Add an 'EXTRACT' Recording Mode (based on 'TAG' Mode).
=> viewtopic.php?f=2&t=25807#p70393"

I'm trying to use the iMacros with Chrome and we use the EXTRACT feature a lot. It is cumbersome to have to flip back and forth between the iMacros browser and the Chrome browser to develop our macros.

Here is the link where I became aware that there is no extraction wizard for the Chrome browser.

http://forum.imacros.net/viewtopic.php? ... 818#p74818

Thanks for considering this........

Thanks @shaves for the "support"..., the more Users express their Support for one or several EnhReq's, the better chance we make to see them/some implemented one day, ah-ah...! 8)

Some new EnhReq from some other User in the following Thread:
- Re: launch macros not in the macros folder from command line
frenchboy wrote:One thing that imacros should add that would be amazing is stdout. This way I could communicate from imacros to nodejs super easily. I think it's possible cause this addon seems to do stdout https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... assistant/

I can already get imacro to communicate with nodejs but it would be cooler if it was easy.

Yeah well, I don't know either...! :oops:

I realize I started this Thread already 2 years ago and from the 18 EnhReq's I currently have mentioned in the OP, only 1 got implemented, oops...!: Item '-04-' about the 'FOLDER_xxx' Vars, and it actually came from @Tom from TechSup, ah-ah...! Hum, and part of Item '-02-', the Wiki for the 'EVENT' Mode got finally greatly improved, but that's about it...!

Concerning the 'DS' Mode for FF (and CR), I guess this Functionality is deliberately kept only in iMB (+IE) to "entice" Customers to buy the Enterprise Edition, but the only "real" Use in my Opinion for the 'DS' Mode is for Flash Sites, but I doubt many "Corporate" Customers play Flash Games, ah-ah...! :twisted:
And Flash was supposed to "disappear" already a few years ago but is still around, Grrr...!, OK, relax..., it's only a Forum...!! :twisted: :shock: :twisted:

>

v10 for CR got released about 2 months ago now, becoming Commercial with FIO/File Access being disabled in the Free Add-on, I reckon a v10 is probably "in the make" for FF to support FF57(+), and some possible "clever" Move from Dev could indeed be to add the 'DS' Mode to v10 for FF.
"They" managed to remove all Download Links to previous Versions for CR thanks to Google Chrome only providing a Download Link to the latest Version of an Add-on, but that will be more difficult with FF thanks to the Mozilla Add-ons Archive, so adding Support to the 'DS' Mode could be a nice Motivation to seduce Customers to the v10 for FF..., and to pay for the Full Version of the Add-on, we shall see...! :wink:
