Macros in Chrome won't run from a blank page.

Post by JC61 » Mon Dec 10, 2012 5:15 pm

I have Chrome set to open with a blank page and to open new tabs with a blank page.

For every version of Chrome and iMacros for Chrome I've ever used, you cannot run a macro from a blank page - if you try you get the following error:

JavaScript Alert
iMacros: Open webpage to run a macro

In other words, you need to have a prior web page open before you can run an iMacro in Chrome, even if the first action of your macro is to open another web page. I realise I could get round this by not having Chrome open with a blank page, but that's how I prefer to run it. In Firefox iMacros run just fine when launched from about:blank. Am I missing something or is this a limitation of iMacros for Chrome vs. Firefox?

(To be clear, my iMacros work fine in Chrome when launched from an open non-blank web page)

Many thanks.

Chrome 23.0.1271.95
iMacros for Chrome 6.0.1 (VERSION BUILD=6011206)

Hi JC61,

Unfortunately, it is still not possible to run macros in Chrome without a pre-loaded web-page. This is a current limitation with the implementation of iMacros for Chrome.

OK, thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

Hopefully this is something which might be addressed in the future? Cheers.

Yes, it's on my personal wish-list as well. For now, I've installed the "Replace New Tab Page" extension into Chrome so that opening a new browser/tab always loads a web page and I can run a macro right away! I don't think this approach will help you since you prefer to open a blank page, but it does help eliminate a step or two otherwise.
